"Tax relief" vs. Patiriotism.
I take solace in the the reasoning of George Lakoff of the issue of taxes.
"Tax Relief" implies that tax is a burden from which we must have "relief." What we need to do is change this conceptual frame, this metaphor of TAX=BURDEN to something more patriotic.
In fact, taxes are what help us to "establish justice, enshure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity" Can you get more patriotic than the Constitution of the United States?
We need to pay our FAIR SHARE towards these common goals that make our county great. To do this, we can enter into public service, of course, but most of us do this by paying "dues" to be in this "club." of ours.
Let's get corporations to pay their fair share. It is their patriotic duty and obligation for operating in the US and enjoying all that this free market economy has to offer.
George Lakoff illustrates this fundamental idea beautifully in an article, "Inside the Frame" published in Alternet and elsewhere.
New MEME: PAYING TAXES IS PATRIOTIC
Corollary: CHEATING ON TAXES IS TREASONOUS
