"It's clear now that Iraq will not transform into a democracy anytime soon." So writes Patrick Basham in a brilliant piece of rock-simple deduction published today by the brain trust over at the conservative Cato Institute.
So let me get this straight: we entered a region with a horrible track record on democratic rule, crushed a dictatorship, replaced it with a military occupation that knowingly abuses captives, and now you say that democracy is not flourishing in Iraq? I'm stunned, I tell you, stunned.
As for George W. Bush's handling of the revelations of abuse...sweet mother of crap. I don't see how this adminstration could have responded with any greater insincerity.
Way to step up and face the music, George. Two 10-minute softball pitching sessions, with a Saudi-funded news service (Al-Arabiya) and one based in Washington (Al-Hurra). I'm sure you thoroughly convinced the Arab world of your willingness to be held accountable for the actions of your troops. Oh wait, you didn't. Not apologizing and not facing any hard questions always defuses critics.
P.S. My compliments, W, to your brother Jeb for muzzling Roger Moore, though as we all know Roger's pretty good at chewing through the leather straps.
