One of the reactionary talking points on the neo-conservative side of the debate is:
Where is the outrage and apology from the Islamic world for the atrocities committed against Americans?
They answer themselves by slipping into the racist implications that the muslims are just "like that".

These gross generalizations are just one more disgusting tool in their concerted effort to open the door to the pandora's box of greater military escalation.
Here is a alternate history fiction that could help add some empathy to the situation.
The democratic state of Turkey is an economic powerhouse of the world in the later part of the twentieth century. They have their eye on the natural resources of the Americas. In order to get their hands on the resources they need to maintain their global dominance, they claim that the political situation in Columbia is morally unacceptable, what with the corruption and humanitarian crisis. After all it is against the teachings of the Koran to traffic in drugs. Furthermore, they find the consumption of alcohol in the United States reprehensible, not to mention the public nudity and divorce rates. They take their claim to the UN that Columbia is scheming to get nuclear weapons grade uranium from Canada. When the UN is unconvinced, Turkey decides to use its overwhelming military might to conquer Columbia and impose sanctions on Canada. When the sanctions on Canada break down, they are forced to invade the Yukon and put military bases in Alaska, coincidentally nearby to the Barrow oil fields. Of course Canada and the US are not happy with this state of affairs. Just because the notorious Timpthy McVeigh, the international terrorist (who doesn't represent Christian values at all), happened to have bombed the Ankora courthouse three years before, doesn't mean that Turkey has a right to take over Alaska, does it? So when an insurgency erupts in the US and Canada and Columbia the mainstream Christians are in support of it 100%. Their support starts to waver a little when the leader of the insurgency, Jerry Falwell, starts to spout off crazy ideas that sound a little provocatory, but for the most part, the public want the insurgency to succeed. Sometimes the insurgents will do some horrible things to someone they think looks gay or sounds like a communist, but overall there isn't too much of an outcry against these atrocities, since everyone is so focused on getting the Turks out. Everyone in the Americas is not a Jerry Falwell, right?
