I'm not a conspiracy theorist. I was never a fan of the X-Files, I don't believe there were any aliens at Roswell, and I'm convinced Oswald acted alone. When I first heard some of the alternative theories about what happened on 9/11, I dismissed them as the ramblings of the "tinfoil hat" crowd. But then I saw
this webpage reviewing the new book
The New Pearl Harbor: Disturbing Questions about the Bush Administration and 9/11
by David Ray Griffin, professor of theology and philosophy at Claremont College. There were enough questions raised on that page to at least pique my interest.
So I picked up a copy of the book from Amazon and started investigating these facts for myself. What I found was indeed disturbing.
Professor Griffin writes in an even style of prose and refuses to discount evidence simply because it seems "beyond the pale". The book is probably the most meticulously annotated book I have ever read, with the endnotes comprising nearly 1/5 of the book. At just over 200 pages, the book is a quick and gripping read.
Now for some of the revelations of the book. Did you know that:
- 80 minutes passed before fighter planes were scrambled to intercept the hijacked airliners. In that time two planes crashed into the WTC and one hit the Pentagon. Ask yourself: would the military have failed to scramble fighters for 80 minutes if those airliners had been Russian Mig fighters?
- Before 9/11, no steel-structured building had ever collapsed due to fire, yet on 9/11, three of them supposedly did. Does that strike you as strange? Is it disturbing to you that Larry Silverstein admitted pulling WTC-7 in direct contradiction to FEMA's statements that the building collapsed due to fire?
- President Bush visited an elementary school and read to a group of children for a full 30 minutes after learning that the USA was under attack and that video exists to confirm this.
- Someone made millions of dollars on high-risk "puts" that United Airlines and American Airlines stocks would plummet in value in the days prior to 9/11.
- Osama bin Laden was treated at an American hospital in the United Arab Emirates in the summer of 2001, and was visited by the local CIA representative there in a closed-door meeting. This despite the fact that he was on the FBI's most wanted list for attacks on two US embassies and the USS Cole .
- The US wanted the Taliban to support building a Unocal pipeline through Afghanistan. When Taliban support wavered, the US representatives told them to "accept their carpet of gold, or be buried under a carpet of bombs" before the snows came. Amazingly, after 9/11, that prediction came true.
- The head of Pakistani Intelligence met with White House officials on the day of 9/11 just weeks after sending Mohammhed Atta, the 9/11 ringleader, $100,000.
These are just a few of the disturbing questions raised in this book. Griffin does not claim to know the truth. His intent is to weigh the evidence against the government's account of that day. He does so effectively, and one cannot help but be alarmed at his research. Professor Griffin states that a truly independent investigation is needed to get to the bottom of what happened on 9/11/2001. Don't we owe it to the victims and their families to do just that?
In my opinion, this may be the most important book published in the last 50 years. 9/11 will probably prove to be the most important event of the 21st century, and this book is the most straightforward, accessible account of events surrounding that day and why they do not match what we have been told. Buy this book. Pass it on to someone you know. Buy a copy for your Congressman. The truth must get out.
