So in my local paper I see this political cartoon by Scott Stantis:
in response, I wrote this letter to the editor:

To the editor,
As a graduating high school senior with US and European history fresh in my mind, I was very dismayed with Tuesday's political cartoon (June 2) depicting "The Left" admonishing D-Day soldiers, "Turn back! Turn back! It's too hard!!!" This right-wing repudiation of our history is not only a vile insult to the troops who lost their lives liberating France, but a blatant partisan smear. Perhaps the GOP has forgotten that our Presidents during WWII-- Franklin Roosevelt and Harry Truman-- were Democrats, and liberal, leftist Democrats at that. The Republican echo chamber loves to circulate the meme that Democrats are weak on defense; in order for that to be true, they would have to rewrite history. In the future, I would ask that the Spokesman Review refrain from publishing such base and brazenly specious propaganda.
Sincerely,
Aaron M. Ring
