I was reading the responses to Demfrom CT's post "What're the People Saying" this evening and had to chuckle about an exchange with one poster who said he had been getting news from the Internet for the last three years (as if this was remarkable).
Hollywierd Liberal responded with mock incredulity: "Three whole years! Wow, I guess we should be awarding you the Legion of Merit."
The exchange got me to thinking about how long I have been plugged into the Net and using digital tools for work, play and politics.
Not that it makes any of us (especially me) necessarilly more intelligent, but I bet Kossacks are more digitally plugged in than the general populace.
So here goes with my digital profile:
- I have been reading DKOS since June 2003.
- I have had a broadband net connection at home since 1999.
- I have had email at home (AOL at first, I must confess) since 1989.
- My first real computer at home was a MacII in 1988. But I switched to the dark side (Microsoft PCs) in the mid 1990s). My basement is still full of old, but dear Macs.
- My first computer at home was the classic "Trash 80" a Radio Shack TRS-80 portable that could barely do word processing, back in 1984.
- I first encountered computers with a venerable IBM 360 in 1970, punchcards and all.
- My favorite 'puter was a beautiful, sleek, purple Silicon Graphics Indigo workstation in 1991 that hummed like a well tuned sports car and worked like a charm.
So, what are your digital histories?
