Great news. Subbing on the NYTimes op-ed page for Tom "Air Miles" Friedman while he puts back together the pieces of his shattered world view will be none other than that premier analytic intellectual of the left, Ms. Barbara Ehrenreich.
Ehrenreich has a trenchant debut in Thursday's paper. She's perhaps best known for her books--Fear of Falling in the early 1990s, Nickeled and Dimed just a few years ago--but her opinion columns have been superb too, and I say that as a skeptic of the left who has long defended The New Republic and its ilk on this site.
Maybe Friedman can set off to criss-cross America working minimum-wage jobs as penance for being such a shill for crony capitalism these past few years.
