Tonight a friend of mine invited me to a dinner party to celebrate her cousin's engagement. Her cousin's fiancee wrote speeches for Guiliani, and I got a chance to talk to him, along with a few other conservatives at the party, about politics.
"This election is going to be a landslide," the guy asserted, claiming that Bush will win easily. He backed his claim up with a variety of old reasons, from who would you rather have a drink with to Sept. 11 to blah blah blah. I suffered the fool gladly for a while, but soon he moved on. I was in slightly lower spirits, as I always am after talking to a Bush supporter.
Then my friend's father called me over and asked "Now, do you agree with that guy or were you just being polite?" I said I was just being polite, and we both laughed. And here's his one million dollar speech that made me feel great about tonight:
"Now, I'm a pretty solid Republican, but you could run McGovern again and I would vote for him over this jackass we have now."
