I just heard a story on ATC about talking books which HHS is sending to Afghanistan. The books are in English and Dari or Pashto, and are intended to teach illiterate women about health issues. The excerpt I heard was aimed at a pre-literate audience (4 or 5 years old). Just because they can't read doesn't mean they're children. The target audience will surely appreciate that the US thinks so highly of them. This cannot be a good way to win hearts and minds, except at the book manufacturer (at $60.00 per book...)
MSF leaves, but we've got talking books instead!
