Update [2004-8-14 21:21:29 by Ottoe]: lots of good suggestions here, and Kos has weighed in ... so read, and add your 2ç ... but please don't recommend this diary, since it's mission is accomplished (so to speak)!
BTW this now should work as some sort of test of the system ... how long will it take for this diary to disappear after putting the breaks on new recommendations?
Ok, back to the original vent:
Once a diary gets in that Recommended group, everyone drawn to it by the extra attention recommends it, so it stays in the group, even when there are literally dozens of new diaries more deserving of attention.
I'm glad to see that the Cheers & Jeers and other popular regular diaries are making it in to the recommended space, but others are lasting way beyond their shelf life!
Wouldn't it be possible to write an algorithm to weigh recent recommendations more highly? So that the recommended diaries feature can really be a "best of the day" area and not a sinkhole of days-old activity?
I know that the new feature was in response to many requests, etcetera. I never had much of a problem with the way things were, and I sure don't see how this makes things really better.
