Got fed up,so I sent hardblogger the email in the extended...
I can't help but be amazed by this sudden outpouring of "journalistic integrity" as various news media (including MSNBC) pick at the bones of Dan Rather's career.
Where was this soul searching when outlet after outlet (again, including MSNBC) aired and re-aired the various fictions created by the Swift Boat Veterans for "Truth"?
My God, the first time I saw Chris Matthews bring up that subject, it was clear he hadn't yet done 10 minutes research on their claims, but he aired and discussed them anyway. Now you're criticizing CBS for trying to verify subject matter and signature, but forgetting about typeface? Give me a break! As usual this election season, you seem to be publicizing the trees, and ignoring the forest.
It's clear even without the CBS memos that Bush did everything he could to ensure that his life was not sacrificed for his country. That's a completely human, and completely understandable, reaction. If it didn't speak volumes about how Bush and the neocons view the consequence of war to themselves, it would be entirely irrelevant. Unfortunately, Americans don't have the luxury of wasting our time on this farce you call a story. We need to choose the candidate whose foreign policy is most likely to keep our children safe in the years to come.
I've listened to commentators on your network for months as they told us, "John Kerry needs to get specific about his plan for Iraq." Today, he did that. And as usual, you were too busy reporting on the trees...
