I was driving to work yesterday morning when one of our local radio talk show hosts was interviewing Michael Powell, head of the FCC.
At first Mr. Powell refused to take live questions from phone callers, but after some needling by the host he finally relented and began answering listener callin questions.
Lo and behold, guess who calls in but Howard Stern... one of the things Howard asks the FCC Chairman is if his dad, Colin Powell, got him the job. Of course Michael Powell denied it, and I read today that Colin Powell said the charge was "nonsense".
But some factcheckers at Associated Press say this:
"Secretary Powell says his son got the job long before he became secretary of state.
But that's not entirely accurate.
Michael Powell was elevated to F-C-C chairman by President Bush on January 22nd, 2001. That was two days after Bush's inauguration, which was also the day his father became secretary of state."
Que casualidad... no?!
