Hey all - just a quick "Woo hoo" for this am's
Medford Mail Tribune which gave me a solid endorsement this morning.
First, they cite the conventional wisdom:
We went into the 2004 fall election campaign reasonably sure that Sal Esquivel was the obvious choice for the state Legislature's House District 6 seat. He is a former member of the Medford City Council, a current state senator (by appointment) and a native of the area. He also is a Republican, which has proven to be indispensable in recent decades in getting elected from this district, which essentially consists of the city of Medford.
But then (this is the exciting part) ...
So it is with some surprise to us -- and others, no doubt -- that we are instead endorsing Democrat John Doty for the position.
And my personal favorite part...
Doty's lack of a political resumé is offset by his real-life resumé. He works as a government and history teacher (not a public employee teacher, by the way) for Crossroads, where his goal is to help at-risk students graduate. He sees daily the fallout from a society that has let too many children slip through the cracks and strongly believes that we must invest in education and in services that help kids and families lift themselves to success.
It's a good read for me...for voters...and it may mark the END of my opponent's career. The "lack of legacy" thing is pretty stern.
We cut my first commercial today (it will be available online soon) and will go on the air with it on Tuesday, late enough that my opponent can't respond until the NEXT week (the way buys work here is kinda cool that way). Anyone who wants to help, $16 gets me 30 seconds of primetime on the local cable service. If you have a preference for channel, let me know :)
PS: PizzaDriver, I got your note this week! Thanks!!!
