I caught wind of a "bots" rumor while scanning FREEPER CENTRAL during the aftermath of the first debate. The idea is that we lefties have created internet robots that vote incessently in online polls and thus skew the results in our favor.
What's the deal? Can there really be such a thing? Is it worth anyone's time and effort to create one? I don't think so.
It would appear that if there is some aspect of reality that does not fit with FREEPERS' world view, then there must be some sort of "ancient astronaut" explanation - which to them is more plausible than the fact that there are more of us.
Here is a thread from last night (fun to read the paranoia and rationalization including the "got wood?" jabs):
Democrats using bots to scure E-POLLS
Some highlights from the first page of these below:
we need a way of combating the democrat 'bots that are destroying the online polls.. freeping isn't enough.
i suspected something fishy when i saw the overwhelming kerry support on the FOX poll.
Cheaters till the bitter end are they..those liberals.
it would be easy to creat a html tool that would just pound each site..... from a server...... would be trival..... however it would be more fun to have the polls show 99 kerry and 1 bush... on everyone of the polls....
no they are using automated software programs that are relatively easy to make to scure the polls.
I noticed the other debate when I tried to vote on MSNBC, I could not get in. That never happened before. It could be a bot overwhelmed the lines.
The very best thing we could do is vote for Kerry in every one of these polls...to make it OBVIOUS how faked they were.
This is the best one:
hate to sound stupid -- but what is the software and how come all the DU's have it and we don't?
Because, my son, they do not exist.
