I think Kerry should say this: "Mr. President, there are reports that Democratic voter registrations are being destroyed in some states. As we know from 2000, the Federal government can override state's rights in voting laws. Please issue an executive order extending the voter registration deadlines in all states for one week, and encourage our citizens to verify that they have indeed been registered. This way we can ensure that all citizen's votes will be counted."

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  Hmmm... (none)
I think it is worth bringing up.  It might start a new media focus on this, which is well overdue.

A different approach might be to point out the irony of Bush bloviating about democracy all the time while his own party corruptly interferes with the democratic process here.  And they wanted to corrupt the Iraq vote as well, according to Nancy Pelosi.  What hypocrisy.

  •  This is a very (none)
good move. It will really put pressure on Bush on the issue.  This could hound Bush until election day while engergizing Democrats.  I love it.

Don't even try to misunderestimate me.

i agree he should say something to raise awareness ...as i write this, i'm starting to get really upset about this whole issue...i start thinking about Bob Moses trying to register voters in Mississippi in the 60's and kinds of things that were done to prevent prevent registration...some things just never seem to change...i don't think people realize the sacrifices made for the franchise
