There's still time!
Have a letter-writing party!
Send them to swing states!
Mine is below the break (feel free to comment).
No rest until inauguration (and then only for a day or two...)
Maybe you've written to a complete stranger before - this is my first time. As an American, the least I can do is write a letter when our democracy and security are at stake. I write to ask you to vote this year, and to share why I will NOT be voting against George Bush, but I will be voting FOR John Kerry.
I don't trust TV ads to tell me the truth about toothpaste, much less a presidential candidate. So to educate myself, I relied on: (1) People who know a lot more about the issues I care about, and (2) My own attempts at fact-checking and checking records.
Here's what I found:
On national security, a group of 27 high-level diplomats and military commanders representing every administration since Truman, compelled by their loyalty to our country, spoke out against the foreign policies of the Bush Administration. These great Americans, who have never before taken a collective public partisan stand, feel that America's security and standing are at stake. (http://www.diplomatsforchange.com)
On the economy, not only have leaders of industry Warren Buffet, Lee Iacocca and others come out in favor of John Kerry's policies, but 169 tenured and emeritus professors of economics and business warned in an open letter to President Bush that "U.S. economic policy has taken a dangerous turn under [President Bush's] stewardship." These people know what they're talking about. (http://openlettertothepresident.org)
If I could create an ideal president for these times, it would look like John Kerry.
- I would want someone who would be a good steward of the U.S. economy, and would put the interests of the country above the interests of a political party.
John Kerry rebelled against the Democratic establishment to support balanced budgets and the Pay-As-You-Go policies that this country needs.
- I would want someone who could innovatively energize our economy.
John Kerry's plans will invest in alternative energy technologies to win independence from Middle East oil, create jobs, and reinvigorate American competitiveness.
- I would want someone who knows how to end a difficult and unpopular war, and re-establish normal relations with the country in conflict.
John Kerry helped to bring an end to the Vietnam War, worked to secure the return of POWs and resolve the MIAs, and re-established a working relationship with Vietnam.
- Most importantly, I would want someone who knows how to dismantle the complex networks formed by terrorist groups, rogue countries, and corrupt corporations.
John Kerry did exactly that in his Senate work on the BCCI and Iran-Contra scandals.
Previous elections may have presented a "lesser of two evils" choice, but not this one. The ideal candidate available! Don't trust me - look these up for yourself. Choose who will best serve as President for our country, and please, vote. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
bribri
