Kerry stated in the debates that stemming nuclear proliferation was to be the
centerpiece of his national security strategy. He claimed he could secure loose nukes in four years as opposed to thirteen under Bush. But have we seen a single ad addressing this yet?
Several diaries below this there's another diary addressing a speech given by Dick Cheney today about the nuclear threat facing the nation. It's absolutely disheartening that Kerry's team is letting Bush-Cheney frame this issue. All of us here at DailyKos should be putting the heat on the Kerry team to formulate a major policy speech on this, coordinated with several ads in swing states.
The "loose nukes" problem is Kerry's LBJ daisy ad issue. Under Bush:
- We failed to secure Iraq's nuclear facilities during the war and hundreds of tons of nuclear production materials were looted. This included what many believe was weapons-grade plutonium.
- Iran is steadily making progress toward nuclear weapons, and North Korea has allegedly increased their arsenal from one or two to seven warheads.
- Our laissez-faire relationship with Pakistan and Russia has failed to stem the black market sales of and transnational traffic in nuclear materials across the world.

Where is Kerry on this? This is his endgame. This is what he
wins with. He has shown enough brio to take on Bush on social security. Why can't he come out and say: "If there is a nuclear terrorist attack on the US in the next five years, it will be as a result of this president's negligence..."?
Why is he letting Cheney back him into a corner so he has to play defense? Why is he letting Bush-Cheney act as if they've done anything substantial on stemming nucear proliferation around the world?
Maxwell calling Kerry and company! We need an ad war and a major speech on this immediately!
