But when Kerry has his inaugural ball, maybe his theme should be Ray Charles, Singing America the Beautiful. I always liked that piece, and when he passed this spring, it seems appropriate to use this particular song for such a high purpose.
Not only is it patriotic in the extreme, but it is patriotic in a GOOD way. The whole song is about America coming together as one, NOT being split into this group and that group.
Below the fold.
Such a song as Kerry's theme would signal a true new tone in DC. While we MUST fight fire with fire to rid the nation of the parasites, we REALLY need to begin ON the first day of Kerry's administration, not a token gesture, but a real commitment to healing the damage done since Ronald Reagan.
As I have seen in several posts, there are true conservatives out there, that if we do not agree with them, we can at least be civil enough to work to heal and rebuild our once proud nation.
A Kerry win, and kicking the SHIT out of the neocons is the only acceptable first step, but we have to be ready to IMMEDIATELY build bridges to the sane members of the opposition if we have any hope of ending the spiraling vitriol that is literally tearing us apart at the seams.
It is only 9 days or so until the election, and ESPECIALLY if it is a cat fight to determine the winner, we need to be gracious where we can.
The snakes that have poisoned the well must be put down, but if we make sincere efforts, both politically, and as individuals, in our personal lives to bridge the gaps to the more sane members of the opposition, maybe we can return to a time when we start to be Americans again, not just bleeding heart liberals and ditto head conservatives.
Yes I am mood swinging, but if we can get past this election, SOMEBODY better give some thought to what follows. F Kerry wins, but the spilt continues to grow, we have still lost. The problems facing us, (yes caused by the thugs, but ...) cannot be solved by us alone. The other side MUST have a REAL stake in solving our differences and moving forward together. Does this mean we get to Jam every thing we want down their throats, just like Bush co did? No, but would that really be the best way for the US to return to greatness? No. We are all part of this nation, and that very FACT is the secret of our strength. We are only strong as a single nation working together, but two partisan camps burning the fields to deny each other a talking point.
Just me in a more hopeful mode. This is particularly a challenge for me, as I am probably one of the most rampant liberals out there, but there must be a truce, and it requires someone to be big enough to take the first steps, and Kerry just might be the man to make it happen.
Till then, the thugs have declared take no prisoners, and we must take the same stance or get beat, but when it is over, Kerry MUST declare it is OVER, and start to rebuild the whole nation, not just our side of it.
Just my peaceful thoughts. I will put my tinfoil hat back on now.
The sentiment that Ray Charles lived his whole life by, was contained in that one song, and it speakes to the very best in evrey one of us. I don't think I have ever met anyone not moved deeply, every time it is played. And there would be far worse ways to start to become friends and co-patriots to salvage what is left of our graet nation, and reach for greatness again.
