My apologies if this has already been diaried. I really did check. It's not like you guys to miss something like this, so if I missed it in my search, feel free to hang me or whatever it is we do these days.
Ginny Schrader was attacked in a RNC mailing as being "un-American" for screening Farenheit 911 at a recent fundraiser. Apparently not one to take such treatment quietly, she went all Maryscott (without the F-bombs) on her opponent at yesterday's debate.
Excerpts from local news report after the jump....
DOYLESTOWN, PA-October 26, 2004 -- Ginny Schrader, the Democratic candidate for the U.S. House seat from Pennsylvania's 8th Congressional District, left a debate with Republican Mike Fitzpatrick, saying she was angry over a GOP mailer that criticized her screening of a controversial film at a fund-raiser.
The mailing was from the NRCC and accused our Ginny of hating America and even compared her to Hezbollah.
The mailing, headlined "Ginny Schrader: The Hate America crowd has found their candidate," claims Hezbollah, a group of Lebanon-based guerillas identified by the United States and Israel as terrorists, has offered to distribute Moore's film.
Not one to take such treatment quietly, Ginny blasted away at her first opportunity, which happened to be her opening statement. Her gutless opponent refused to respond.
"Let me assure you, I don't hate America," Schrader said in her opening remarks Monday. "This mentions Hezbollah. Half my family is Jewish. This is totally unacceptable."
She also asked Fitzpatrick to apologize. Fitzpatrick, who sat stoically next to the standing Schrader, did not respond.
Another example of Mr. Fitzpatrick's shining courage:
Fitzpatrick said afterward that he was disappointed Schrader left, but he refused to apologize. "It isn't something we sent out," he said of the mailing. "I don't condone it, and I didn't pay for it."
The NRCC's defense?
Bo Harmon, a spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee, defended the mailing. "We're simply trying to demonstrate that Ginny Schrader is aligning herself with groups that are very outside of the mainstream," he said.
Gimme a fucking break.
I don't know how this will be spun around here, but I, for one, applaud Ginny Schrader for calling Fitzpatrick out on this despicable shit.
