Yeah it's early, but
this poll teaches us something about the residents of Alabama.
Mainly, if a Republican governor tries to be like Jesus by reforming the tax code to allow for more equitable distribution of wealth, he is hated. And if you defy a federal court in order to impose religion into the public space, then you are a hero. Symbolism trumps action.

The poll also found that Riley, a Republican, would trail either former Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore or his last election opponent, former Gov. Don Siegelman, in the 2006 race for governor [...]
The survey comes two months after voters overwhelmingly defeated Riley's proposed billion-dollar tax plan to address the state's fiscal straits and improve education. The governor and other state officials have been left to grapple with steep cuts, while two administration-sponsored citizens' commissions study ways to streamline government.
