Those of us in Arizona received a welcome bit of news when we discovered this morning that Congressional candidate
Paul Babbitt won one of four initial
MoveOn endorsements.
MoveOn, the grassroots Progressive movement which is now over 1.8 million strong, provides Babbitt with a powerful fundraising advantage in a race which pits him against millionaire and perennially well-funded carpetbagger Republican "Tricky Rick" Renzi. This is one of the most competitive races in the country, as Babbitt, the brother of former Interior Secretary Bruce Babbitt, is extremely popular in the district.
There is other great news from the Babbitt campaign, too, as they have just hired Frank Costanzo, former Arizona Dean campaign director, as Babbitt's campaign manager. This move signals a powerful connection with the grassroots and Internet communities, as Costanzo is immensely well-respected among Arizona Progressives and has a track record of supporting the blogging community. The campaign is expected to have a blog up and running as soon as possible.
Please, please help us in Rural Arizona regain local, Progressive leadership! Contribute to Babbitt's campaign today (and remember to add a penny for the Internet). Let's get strong fundraising numbers for Babbitt before the quarter is over, and make sure he receives all the national help he can get.
