I'm quite good at math and I'm having some trouble here. I'm not suggesting a conspiracy to steal our votes because that wouldn't explain our weak (relative to the polls) showing in places like NM and WI that have clean elections; I'm trying to understand the total absolute turnout of about 114MM. First, this shows that we did indeed need 115MM. Next, my quick calculations say that Bush did just as good—no, even better than us—job of energizing his (radical-right) base. I think we can shelve that liberal Democratic agenda of compulsory gay marriage (say, did the Mass Supreme Court ever hear of "backlash"?). What I don't understand is that percentage turnout is going to be only a point or two above 2000 (if that), so
why were the lines so long? Inadequate number of polling places and machines?
It's bad enough that we can write off the old Confederacy at most levels of government (BTW, we participated in this with racially-conscious gerrymandering without thinking of the consequences), but I still need to know
where did our remaining voters go?
