Following the trend of smaller government rhetoric, we should offer the promise of a "Streamlined Government", in spending, social programs, but also military spending and tax welfare for organizations, governments, corporations . . .
Of course this would also apply to a foriegn policy position of less medling in the world. It would also be able to refocus globalization into a question of quality of life for people. It's time to label the conservatives and Republicans in general as the "monolothic government" party, and reclaim the language of liberty.
Significantly, this lets Democrats run without running from taxes - particularly income taxes. I say we make a concerted effort to lower or eliminate the payroll tax.
These are different words for similar concepts that the left has been fighting for for over 80 years. The American people don't want Social Security or Medicare to die. They do want national health-care, they don't want to spend billions on foriegn wars (even if they buy into the imperialist ideology on face). They don't want billions given away to defense contractors or a missle defense system.
First, we have to stop the Supreme Court from forcing us out of the equation entirely. We must block Bush appointees.
