Kos has a post on the mainpage about how "values" killed us:
"Massachusetts has the lowest divorce rate in the nation, yet Kerry was bad because he had 'Massachusetts values' or other such nonesense."
I believe the results suggest a different, though also rough conclusion: Values didn't propel a mass of voters to view Kerry as unacceptable. Rather, it was the number one motivation that got Rove the Evangelical turnout he wanted. I repeat: Values isn't an issue that hurts Dems, it is an issue that increases Rep. turnout.
Ask yourself, how could you possibly love Bush? His foreign policy sucks, and only appeals to a small crazy base. He is not fiscally conservative, so that appeal is gone. There's only one thing left: social conservatism, or "Being really backwards." Take that away, and you have a tepid right-wing, just like his daddy had twelve years ago. The Reps. have won the turnout battle two cycles in a row, and it's because Religion...these people don't just agree with Republican positions, they fucking believe it like it's holy.
We need to find a way to neutralize that. So the question for the Kos community is, How do we counteract that? Be it paint the other side as immoral or have a candidate who can believably come across as religious, I believe we can do this. So heads up, and take the poll.
