BushCo and those who have legitimized him this time around are digging us into a hole. While it is important that we continue to document this fact and to spread the word that the hole is deeper and wider, we need to start buildint the ladders that will get us out.
Fighting Bush and his agenda starts at home. Rather than being "led" by a person or a party, we must take this initiative ourselves. My personal way is by reducing our household "footprint" on the environment. What will you do?
Generally speaking, we need to have alternate plans/policies to put forth at all levels of government. For example, municipalities can work to protect the environment when the EPA does not help by improving and encouraging public transport, etc.
BUT, we can also improve the environment by our daily actions and choices.
Moreover, we can do this in our day to day lives: We need a cultural change. We need to consume less (energy, food, manufactured goods, etc) we need to reuse what we do have, and we need to recycle or otherwise properly dispose of what we don't need. We also need to support the use of recycled material (by buying recycled paper at home and in the workplace, for example).
Step One: Earth Day Footprint Quiz: Calculate your ecological footprint. This will give you a sense of where you are now.
Step Two: Take the Nature Challenge and see how you can improve the environment despite "Clear Skies."
Step Three: Take action: less is more. Acting on the "Nature Challenge" will improve your life and improve your environment. AND it saves you money - money that otherwise would be lining the pockets of a corporate shareholder. Whoever thought that doing less and using less would become a defiant political act?
We have to start somewhere. When the leaders don't lead, then more power to the people.
