As I was trying to come to terms with the results of this election and the many reports of fraud with paperless voting machines I realized that what really needs to be done is to outlaw these paperless voting machines. Ballot initiatives are used to fund stem cell research, outlaw gay marriage and a host of other issues. What if we as a community did the research to find out what would be necessary to get an initiative on the ballot in every state in 2005.
I am willing to coordinate these efforts and I believe we would be successful in every state. Who would vote against the "Count Every Vote " initiative? We could craft these ballot measures so that in the end all 50 states would be voting exactly the same way but without having to have a law passed in congress to achieve this. How could the Republicans put money into funding opposition to these measures without looking like the suppression artists that they are? I will start this process once I get some feedback from the Kos community. Would I need to set up a 527 to accomplish this? Any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated. This is my first diary post so please be kind.
The first states we should concentrate on are Florida, Ohio and New Mexico. 2005 will be an off year for voting and turnout will be light so if we rally the troops we can get this passed in all 50 states at once. If we can get this done it will be the end of paperless machines, the end of hanging chads and the end of undercounted votes. I truly believe this can be accomplished and it will set us up for good midterm elections in 2006. Please recommend this diary so i can get more input and ideas.
