Two Democratic House candidates, Willie Mount (a woman) and Charlie Melancon, are running in a runoff election in two districts in Louisiana. The runoff will be held Dec. 4. It would be GREAT to win these elections, because they would provide "DEMOCRATS WIN" headlines (which would help restore morale and encourage party activists) and would reduce the net Repub House gain this year to ONE SEAT. If it seems impossible, remember that a similar thing happened in the same state in 2002, when Sen. Mary Landrieu won reelection in a runoff by, of all things, attacking Bush.

A quick explanation of the "runoff" in Louisiana: The Pelican State has all the candidates for a given office compete against each other on election day (this is called a "jungle primary"). If one candidate wins 50% or more of the vote, that person wins the office, and no runoff is held. If no one wins 50%, then a runoff election is held in December between the top two candidates. Both of these races are winnable; Bill Clinton and the current governor, Kathleen Blanco, did well in these areas, as did John Kerry. Please contribute!
