slightly edited...like a dope I copied and pasted the wrong text into the blockquote. all fixed now. Need sleep badly.--Rob
We may be rid of the father, but we're not rid of the son yet. On the whole, I'd rather keep the father, despite his vast and staggering array of faults. At least Colin doesn't strike me as some kind of power mad Puritan. How Michael became one, I don't know. Maybe Colin just puts on a happy shiny face for public consumption.
In any event, from Susan Crawford's blog, we have this charming news.
...if the FCC has the power to act on anything that has something to do with communication, we have only the FCC's self-restraint to rely on when it comes to all internet communications. We should care because we want open platforms and open communications to continue. We should care because the future of the internet is at stake -- the FCC will use its "ancillary jurisdiction" to impose "social policies" on any services that use the internet protocol, and will point to its broadcast flag action as support for its jurisdictional claims.

Click on the link, there's much more, all of it informative and scary. Michael Powell is like any neocon, except that he doesn't want dominion over the world. Nope, he'll be just perfectly satisfied with dominion over every single way you communicate.
In the Technology Age, this would make him one of the most powerful people in America and consequently the world. (Maybe I was wrong in the preceeding paragraph). Hell, pretty soon we may have rules governing our conversations, since that's a form of communication.
Anyway, y'all (and me) may want to think about contacting the FCC, and our representatives and senators about this. Seems just a wee bit spooky, and something that's flying entirely under the radar.
