I sure do hope the whole community will read this. I hope I'm not being long-winded here in my diary, but the purging of the CIA (which leads me to believe we will see the same happen in the FBI), the ascent of Condi and other such actions by our President have led me to one conclusion.
In this new term, Bush will be more concerned going after us than he will the terrorists.
Bush and his Administration would not be doing what they are doing if they cared about protecting us against terrorism. They wouldn't be cleansing their government agencies of dissenting opinions. Instead, they are pursuing something more devilish - to bring all forms of government under their complete control. With nothing but Yes-Men, they will have complete freedom to do what they want and go after whomever disagrees with them.
This is the very definition of a totalitarian government.
Bush and the GOP's greatest threat to their power is not so much the terrorists, but the 55 million people who voted against them in this recent election. These people are a major thorn in their side from completely pursuing their agenda and getting away with it. The only way they can win now will be to silence them or scare them into silence. When you have a CIA and a FBI dead loyal to you, you have a much better shot at doing that.
The Secret Service arrests and banishments from the Bush/Cheney campaign rallies, I no longer believe, were simply campaign filter machines. They were evidence of a much more serious practice that is surely going to become commonplace under four more years of Bush. A brand new Truth Police, designed to hunt out dissenting opinions, shut them down, and silence, albeit permanently, those cries of opposition.
A CIA and FBI that only answers to the President and no one else will be able to do all these things and thensome, and should they go to the courts, Bush's right-wing appointees will turn a blind eye to these illegal, unAmerican acts. That may not be the case, but when it starts, America will cease to be anything but. In addition, sites like this one and others will be hunted and shut down by these new Bush-controlled offices, and a comatosed public saturated with corporate media will do nothing to stop it.
All that's left right now to stop this from becoming reality is Congress. Congress, in particular the Senate, will need to develop a major backbone to stem this tide. We will be needing to flood the mailboxes and voicemails of our elected representatives in the House and Senate - only by doing so will they all finally pay attention to us, and do something about it. I think it's high time we start doing that. The sooner they understand what is happening, the better prepared they will be to contain the GOP machine, and the more of a chance we'll have to build up the progressive movement that will be needed to repair the damage done by these guys.
Don't say I didn't warn you - the early warning signs are apparent.
