When referring to the Neanderthal Religious Right, I occasionally use the tern "Talibaptist".
It's short, to the point, and puts the religious wing nuts immediately on the defensive.
It's also cruel and an oversimplification.
So, why do I do this? Because language has power.
If I call TaliBaptists "Right Wing Evangelicals", they like the term. In fact, they rejoice in that term.
But TaliBaptist? It drips with connotations of archaic backward unthinking and un-American evil.
The right has to a large degree taken a page from Orwell, and defined the language of debate to their favor, and I think that it is time to us to do the same.
They cannot be negotiated with.
Those who can be convinced of their error should be. Those who can't be convinced should be made to feel ashamed.
Of course, the term Talibaptist may not be the best term for this.
Any suggestions?
