The media sunk the Dean campaign. It seemed almost deliberate - the media elites had an open, visceral hatred of Howard Dean. Dean is not a Brahmin, he is not part of the Washington DC power-and-money circuit. And the campaign against Howard Dean almost birthed itself through the keyboards of elite reporters and commentators. Such is the plight of any real reform candidate in this country - as we saw with Dean, the entirety of the elite media apparatus transforms itself into an attack machine which will mischaracterize, distort, slander, and otherwise seek to destroy the candidate, almost from day 1. Howard Dean, until the media was able to annoint power-wealth-and-prestige elite insider John Kerry the Official Frontrunner, may never have actually produced a single undistorted, negative report on Howard Dean.
In the meantime, the Officially Annointed John Kerry has been given a free pass the media, and despite his craven record - the corporate contributions and wealth elitism, the repeated cave-ins to Bush, the flipflopping and dishonesty - his momentum has now taken on the self-fulfilling prophecy aspect of eventual campaign winners.
What are we seeing is not just the hijacking of the anti-Bush populist reform movement which has opposed the Iraq war, the Patriot Act, the class warfare disquised as "economic policy", the assault on environmentalism by a group of weasel politicians in the high ranks of the Democratic Party - we are not just seeing John Kerry emulate Howard Dean's stump speech while lying to us about how we wants to take on "special interests". In fact, we are seeing the demise of the reform movement itself. John Kerry is a special interest, and he has no relationship whatsoever to the people who protested his Iraq war vote or his Patriot vote or his NCLB vote or any of the rest of the "compromises" he has made.
We are seeing the death by co-opting of the entire liberal reform movement in America. Elite "opinion leaders" who know where their bread gets buttered are busily selling to us candidates from a party elite interested only in furthering their own power and careers.
And I say: we out here on The Street need have no part of this.
News Flash: "ABB, Bruther" is horse puckey. It is horse puckey because it is being preached at us by people like John Kerry, who certainly could not believe in "ABB" themselves when it came time to vote against Bush in the Senate. You see? "ABB, Bruther" is a way of manipulating us into believing that the people who have sold us out but now want our votes for the purposes of serving their personal power and ambitions are in actuality our leaders and representatives.
We are seeing the demise of our movement, as it is assimilated by this Borg-like party, and we don't need to participate.
"ABB", my ass. If John Kerry really believed himself in "ABB", he would have voted against Bush himself.
But you see, John Kerry only votes for John Kerry. And when he says "ABB" what he really wants is a vote for John Kerry, not a vote against George Bush.
Threaten the viability of his campaign in the general election until he is forced to establish a real relationship to us. And carry through on the threat - If John Kerry wants a free ride into the White House, courtesy of liberal populist reformers in urban environments, tell him to go to Hell.
