OMG! I have never seen anything like it. I always get to the polling place early to vote and this morning was no exception.
I come from Chicago where everything runs like a well oiled machine. Hell, even the dead registered democrats rise up and vote in Chicago (haha). My experience in LA has always been very smooth. I have never seen it anything less than organized until today.
More below.
First, the polling place opened 7 minutes late (okay, it's LA) which was annoying.
Then, the spinkler system started. Everyone who wanted to pass through the doors had to resign themselves to the fact that they were going to get a little damp if they were going to vote.
When I got inside (complete with wet socks), it was as though Moe, Larry and Curly were running the show.
The volunteers were completely CLUELESS. They couldn't seem to locate anyone's name on the lists and I had to show them how to do it.
Then I went to the booth and inserted my ballot to find that the holes did not line up correctly.
I removed my ballot and went to get one of the election officals to show him the problem and ask if he would fix it.
HE LEFT IT THERE.
So, I took the little ballot contraption to a sensible looking judge and showed him the problem. He seemed interested in correcting it, so I finally voted and made it out of there in 25 minutes. It took 25 minutes to vote and I was the 3rd person in line.
I have never seen anything like it.
Is anyone else in California having problems?
