Hello friends.
Similar to the recent closing of the window for Democratic or Republican candidates to file for office in Illinois, Texas' filing deadline is this Monday, January 2. Since it is vitally important that we have a full Democratic slate up and down the ticket, but particularly on the congressional level, I am concerned by the lack of any Democratic candidate in a number of districts -- not to mention some of the statewide offices.
Hello friends,

According to that gem of an online political resource, these races are currently uncontested by a Democrat:
- STATE COMPTROLLER
- STATE LAND COMMISSIONER
- STATE RAILROAD COMMISSIONER
- CONGRESS, DISTRICT 2 (Ted Poe)
- CONGRESS, DISTRICT 11 (Mike Conaway)
- CONGRESS, DISTRICT 12 (Kay Granger)
- CONGRESS, DISTRICT 13 (Mac Thornberry)
- CONGRESS, DISTRICT 26 (Michael Burgess)
Conversely, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Congressman Ruben Hinojosa, Congressman Lloyd Doggett and Congressman Henry Cuellar have no Republican opposition at the present moment.
Does anyone know of candidates that aren't on the radar screen, but are in fact entering races? Do we know the involvement of the Texas Democratic Party in these efforts -- what is the nature of their recruiting? Please share!
I know an open thread was ran the day leading up to the Illinois filind deadline. The Democratic Party has candidates in every district there, which is rock solid excellent, but having a full team playing in Texas would be a powerful message, too. It is seen as such a 'red state', although I find that to be a misnomer.
We need to compete everywhere and we need to get the Democratic message out everywhere! At the bare minimum, it is a chief responsibility of the Democratic Party to field candidates in order to allow those who strongly or marginally want to cast their votes for individuals representing that party to do so.
Cheers,

P.S. -- If you check out all of the current congressional candidates, you'll see a bevy of individual who have served the nation by way of the military in some capacity. There is even Mary Beth Harrell, mother of a soldier currently serving in Iraq, who diaried at dailykos recently. I'm impressed with those running in Texas :)
P.P.S. -- Have a lovely New Year!
