The bejeebus people are right. The end times are nigh on high. The freeper creatures (the uber-wingnut-jobs at www.freerepublic.com) and our own crazy aunt in the attic, the
Democratic Underground, are actually
agreeing on something.
Unbelievable.
Some of the Freepers are experiencing buyer's remorse already, over an issue that, irony of ironies, the fringiest of lefties agree with, too.
Cue up Obama's convention speech. This, found on Free Republic. The spelling's so bad, it must be for real. (Though it implies that one of them actually read George Orwell.) If you're up for it, snap on a keyboard condom and head for the source and partake of some delicious schadenfraude.

the New Freedom Commission
Am I the only one who has noticed how obsessed the bush administration is with creating departments that are right out of george orwells 1984 ?It started with the victory act and nowthey are plagurising whole paragraphs from the book to create new departments WTF.
As for this mental health screening for all children if any parentever sends thier kid to a public school after today they cant bitch to anyone anymore aboutthe school system they know whats going on and refuse to homeschool or send them to a private school becasue that will get in the way of them collecting really cool things like plasma tvs and 3 cars in the driveway and we cant have that now can we?Anyone that send sthier kid to a public school is anymore is commiting child abuse in my opinion.

Apparently, not just the moderates, but the extremists on both sides of the political aisle are upset over the manatory mental health screening for kids. A few days ago I read an editorial by the vile wraith known as Phyllis Schlafly (anti-everything, gays, women, blacks, education, pants, laughter, dancing, kissing, etc etc) and was struck by how funny it was that she opposes (and blames liberals for, even though the liberals haven't been able to do jack for years) mandatory health screening for kids as financially wasteful and medically uneccesary--even though the plan was created by the chimp's hand-picked commission. I may be wrong, but I think she opposes things like vaccination, flouridated water, and all psychological/psychiatric treatments in general.
In the words of the Depends-diapered-she-beast:
Like most liberal big-spending ideas, this one was slipped into the law under cover of soft semantics. Its genesis was the New Freedom Commission on Mental Health (NFCMH) created by President George W. Bush in 2002.
The NFCMH recommends "routine and comprehensive" testing and mental health screening for every child in America, including preschoolers. President Bush has instructed 25 federal agencies to develop a plan to implement the Commission's recommendations.
The NFCMH proposes utilizing electronic medical records for mental health interrogation of both children and adults for mental illnesses in school and during routine physical exams. The NFCMH also recommends integrating electronic health records and personal health information systems.
My respose, "Neener neener, bitch." (That was also my response upon reading that she has a gay son.) Of course, I have no kids, just a sense of humor that gets a shade darker every week and will continue to do so until some Democrat out there grows a spine and acts like a leader.

Do we even require our legislators to READ THE CONSTITUTION anymore? There is no way our founding fathers would agree with this type of law.

My response, "You dumb Freeping fuckwads. You bought Bush the election and now you are going to enjoy it." Big Pharma is a Big Republican supporter. Do the Freepers really not understand who is in charge?
Pharmaceutical Industry Political Spending
September 01, 2004
Associated Press
Lobbying and other political spending by the pharmaceutical industry includes:
-Washington lobbying, 2003: $85 million.
-Donations to national party committees and presidential and congressional candidates by industry employees, 2003-04: at least $11.5 million, roughly two-thirds to Republicans.
-Top recipients of industry political giving this election cycle: President Bush, at least $870,000; Democratic challenger John Kerry, about $350,000.
-Companies whose employees have given the most to federal candidates and party committees this election season: Pfizer, at least $1.1 million; GlaxoSmithKline, $765,545; Johnson & Johnson, $584,985. All sent roughly two-thirds to Republicans.

Liberals are more likely to be offended by the NFCMH's civil liberties implications and big brother corporate pharma forcing its way into elementary schools. Plus the idea that if there's going to be health screening on a mass scale, why not tackle more basic, less subjective stuff: eyesight, nutrition, head lice, diabetes, asthma, cavities. It's not like uninsured kid with a bipolar disorder is going to have access to medication and counseling anyhow. (Even the insured ones aren't going to get much in the way of mental health coverage from their parents' HMOs.)
However, I think that both sides can agree that children's mental health issues are not something best addressed in a school nurse's office. And that a lot of mental disorders require counseling along with pills. Not that it matters one damn bit what you, or I, or all of the Democratic Underground or the Free Republic think or write or say.
But, it sure as hell isn't my fault that Bush was elected. I plan on saying that a lot over the next four years.
