Governor Richardson just spent a couple of minutes on Morning Edition and hit, well, all the Reform Democrat buttons (except the tech button-- not sure if he gets that one). In a nutshell, the NM Gov told NPR:(1) We're not connecting with "the heartland" well enough, though (2) Kerry wasn't a bad candidate and (2.5) the Latino results were a wake-up call (60% for Kerry in revised exit poll numbers) not a death knell. (3) We're not going to roll over and let bad ideas through; we're going to fight against programs we think are wrong-- but (4) we need to propose our own ideas on major Bush issues, our own tax reform plan (that doesn't bust the budget as W's will) and our own Social Security fix (that doesn't screw future generations as W's will), and (5) those ideas should probably come from the states, where Dem govs and state parties can try out fresh ideas.
Governor Richardson sounded great. I'm not touting him for Prez, just as a man to watch: I like him more now than I did last night (or last month).
