umm...that's a big fat no. I think we all knew that already but here are some nuggets of wisdom that these
federally-funded abstinence courses are teaching our kiddos:
Some federally funded abstinence sex education courses tell youngsters that 50% of all American teenage gay men are HIV positive, touching someone's genitals can make you pregnant and abortion can lead to sterility and suicide, says the Washington Post.
The courses stated that `condoms fail in 31% of cases of heterosexual sex'. Some of the courses went on to say that a fetus is a thinking person when it is just 43 days old. Many of the courses claimed that you can catch HIV from a person's tears.
Don't worry - more genious below...
For further information - I googled abstinence only sex ed and found
North Carolina's Public Education site. I was hoping to find that their courses would provide more balanced info that what is highlighted above...it doesn't look good my friends:
+ assure that students are aware of the difference between risk reduction through use of contraceptives and/or condoms and risk elimination through abstinence;
Really? Abstinence until marriage is risk elimination? Tell that to the women who marry as virgins and still manage to get various STD's from their husbands. Oh wait - there is no infidelity in our Christian marriages.
+ for any instruction concerning contraceptives or prophylactics, provide accurate statistical information on their effectiveness and failure rates for preventing pregnancy and sexually-transmitted diseases, including HIV/AIDS, in actual use among adolescent populations;
Well yes, I suppose if we don't educate our adolescent populations on the proper use of contraceptives, then their actual use statistics probably would look pretty bad.
+ inform students of the current legal status of those homosexual acts that are a significant means of transmitting diseases, including HIV/AIDS;
Excuse me? Okay...are they referring to the Texas sodomy laws? Or maybe they're referring to the legality of knowingly spreading STDs? Any ideas?
+ assure that students understand that a mutually faithful, monogamous, heterosexual relationship in the context of marriage is the best lifelong means of avoiding diseases transmitted by sexual contact, including HIV/AIDS;
Oh, so two homosexual virgins that enter into a monogamous relationship and only engage with each other could still contact STDs. Hmm...tricky. Okay I'm being pretty snarky but come on folks! Seriously. This is not an education. I think abstinence is the best way to avoid STDs...but even then it's not a guarantee. Where are the options for teenagers who decided to engage in sexual activity? This is a blatant violation of separation of church and state. They have decided that they don't want teenagers having sex because it's bad - so they went out and created a 'curriculum' that backs up their opinions. This is didacticly based preaching in our schools.
