Human Rights Campaign have
announced that the new co-chair of their board of directors is Michael Berman. Berman is heterosexual and has worked for Walter Mondale and for The Duberstein Group, a DC consulting firm. He says that he plans to work with the GOP. I certainly wish him luck, but the GOP believe that one of the best ways to win elections is to tear us to pieces. They don't want to work with us. This may also cause the media to say that gays have to hide behind straights in order to be presentable.
His co-chair is lesbian Gwen Baba.
So is Hillary Rosen still the public face for HRC or the interim executive director or whatever? Baba and Berman will just be behind the scenes?
This new approach of working with the Republicans, or at least claiming to do so, fits with the reports that some big HRC donors were upset at how "partisan" Cheryl Jacques made the organization (of course she also drove away others for a number of reasons -- it seems like she was just a disaster).
