Let me start this brief diary (sorry, in a rush, but wanted to get the ball rolling), by saying two things:
- I know Bill Clinton has said he doesn't want to be DNC chair (either because of his personal UN/etc. ambitions, or to avoid a conflict with Hillary running for Prez), and
- As a true-blue progressive, I was no big fan of Clinton's policies during his presidency
That being said, I think the fact is indisputable. William Jefferson Clinton would make the best DNC chair now -- maybe ever.
He has huge name recognition.
He loves politics, and unlike other candidates is known as a "winnner" at politics.
He can raise money.
He has Red State appeal.
He can enforce party discipline.
The Big Dog could turn the Democratic Party from a wilting embarassment into a powerful political juggernaut capable of WINNING, more than any other person in the country at this moment.
He's not a "Reform Democrat" (which remains a vague concept), and he's no progressive. But he knows how to win.
So: should we organize our might to draft the Big Dog as DNC chair?
Thoughts/reactions/flames welcome!
