Here is a great example about how whacked our current puritanical priorities are in this country.
One of the teams on CBS' reality show "The Amazing Race" are a couple named Johnathan and Victoria. The two own a few busineses when not on the show and Victoria has some slight fame as a Playboy playmate in the 1990s.
Johnathan is getting his fame enhanced as one of the most visable domestic abusers ever seen on TV.
Througout the season, Johnathan has been constantly verbaly abusing Victoria when something was going wrong or if he was getting stressed out. The tensions have gotten worse as the race has gone on to the point where he is starting to use physical violence toward her.
In last night's episode, Johnathan freaked out when it appeared the two of them would finish second in the leg of the race. He started to yell at his wife then, after they failed to win (thanks in part because Victoria had to cary both of their backpacks), he shoved his wife hard.
You would think something would have been done about this, but the producers of the show are doing nothing to stop this! Phil, the host of the show, looked like he wanted to kill Johnathan, but just told him to go talk to his wife, who was sobbing over the treatment she got.
CBS and Viacom are sending a bad signal here. Its bad to show a woman's nipple for a second, but its fine to have a man verbally and physically assault his partner. What was going through the mind of this network when they allowed this sort of thing to happen.
Shows you how screwed up GOP values are at this point.
