President GW Bush prides himself on being the CEO President. He runs the largest Goverenment in the World, with hundreds of thousands of government workers dedicated (and in some cases not so dedicated) to providing services to one (if not the most) advanced country in the world. This is a huge undertaking. Like any big company, he is responsible for getting individuals to make the Deparments of his company work in the best and most efficient ways possible. For a governement there is no earnings per share or stock price to worry about, but there is shareholders approval that comes up every now.
His Cabinet consists of 16 individuals - 1 being the Vice President, and 15 other handpicked Department Heads. Basically the 15 Department Heads get rubber stamp approval unless some major problem is discovered during the vetting process. Basically, if the President wants these guys to run any of these 15 Departments, so be it is the opinion of the House of Representatives.
But what happens when these officials do not measure up to the job of running these deparments? Is there a process in place to replace these individuals?
The War in Iraq is going nowehere fast. Donald Rumsfeld is leading this Deparment and should have been removed long ago. The torture scandal was another huge problem and still Bush, who actually had to apologize for this man, lets Rumsfeld remain.
Condeleeza Rice heads the Department of State. They are responsible for dealing with foreign countries, heading up diplomacy. Apparently, not to many foreign countries like diplomacing with her.
And what about Michael Chertoff, Head of Homeland Security. This man is responsible for Homeland Security, and this includes the Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA). They are responsible for handling and type of national emergency that may arise. This could be anything from a huge chemical spill, to a large natural disaster. Needless to say, things have not gone well for this man this week.
I could go on and talk about each of the other Deparments that make up our government, but I think people know where this is going. Our government has a problem with unqualified individuals running the various Departments of our government, and it's time for the shareholders to start demanding answers from our CEO.
So, Mr CEO. Based on the failure of Department of Homeland Security to provide any level of homeland security several days after a hurrican twice strikes our shores, I demand that you remove Michael Chertoff and replace him with somebody who actually has expericene in running a Department that deals with saving peoples lives. Your decision to appoint him to this position, fully knowing that people's lives could be at stake because of this appointment, was horrendous.
The shareholders are outraged.
