This has always been one of my most important issues. For some reason I've always been interested in public transit. I have a question from Colorado residents:
What is FASTraks? Can you explain it to me? How would it work?
Anyway, if you live in the DC, here are some of my fantasy projects that I think the area should consider to improve its transit and highways.
- Wisconsin Avenue: I would create a spur that would go down Wisconsin Avenue, stopping at the McLean Gardens, the National Cathedral, Glover Park, P Street, and Georgetown, before going down to Van Dorn Street or Huntington. Maybe it would be good to have a line spur off at Rosslyn toward Vienna.
- The Orange Line: I would extend it all the way down I-66 to Manassas, stopping at places like Fairfax and Centreville.
- The Dulles Metro Extension: I would extend it all the way to Leesburg.
- The Yellow Line: I would extend it to Fredricksburg.
- VRE: I would have it run on the weekends.
- MARC: I would have it run on the weekends
- The Green Line: I would extend it up into Howard County to Columbia or maybe even have it swing to Owens Mills, MD to meet the Baltimore Metro.
- The Orange Line: I would extend it up to BWI airport to meet up with the Baltimore Light Rail and stop at Bowie.
- The Blue Line: I would extend it out toward Annapolis.
- The Red Line: I would extend it to Germantown and Frederick via 355 and 270. I would also extend the other end from Glemont up through Olney to Mt. Airy or Damascus. Maybe even to Westiminster.
- Between Frederick and Baltimore I would create a rail line on that rail track to parallels US 26 to connect exurban Baltimore and DC to Frederick.
- The Green Line: I would extend it toward Waldorf.
- Light Rail: I would finish the line they are building off Minnesota Avenue up to Deanwood. I would have a line running on Georgia Avenue and on other streets in DC.
- Beltway Metro: A metro line that would circle the beltway and meet the purple line that is under consideration in Montgomery and PG Counties.
- The ICC: I would finally build it. As much as I would hate the last parts of rural Montgomery County to go it is only a matter of if, not when tragically.
- Bypasses: I would build a bypass from BWI off I-95, through Anne Arundel and PG County, across into Virginia, and into Fredricksburg. I would also build a bypass from about Frederick, through Loudoun County, down through Manassas, meeting I-95 down in Frederickburg or Spotsylvania County. I'd even consider a bypass from I-70 in Washington County that avoids Frederick and meets the Frederick-Fredicksburg bypass somewhere in Loudon County.
Would this work at all? I know it is a fantasy since the local governments would never approve it.
