Santa Claus brought the Repuboicans a great Xmas gift:
Christy Gregoire became governor by 130 votes!
Why are the Publicans happy?
In her election campaign she painted herself as a mean minded Democrat ... no new taxes, reform the state's business rules and spend .5 billion cloning workers from stem cells. ... sort of Schwarzenegger without muscles.
Unlike Arnold though, our gubber-nator isn't all that likable. AAs Attorney general she lost credibility by bklaming subordinates whenever the office screwed up. As a candidate, she tried to paint her primary opponent with the black tar of liberalism ... alienating those of us who admire Sims. Then Christy tried to duck out of the bdebated but accused her moderate Republican opponent of all the sins of being a devout catholic ... or so it appeared to the huge number of Kerry votes who voted for Senator Rossi.
What now?
Well first she needs to fill in the billion dollar deficit with cuts in services. That ought to make her popular with the Republicans who hate her now for ... for winning and loose some more Demo voters.
Then there is her promise to spend a half billion on stem cell research. That ought to be popular with a few dozen folks at the University of Washington, but the biotech firms are openly angry at this waste not only of money but money that might have been spent helping Seattle's South lake Union Biotech Park (so far a nearly fallow ground) plant some seeds.
Oh yeah, we will have two years of talk radio discussions about their version of Florida 2000 augmenting her already near mythical mismanagement of the office of Attorney General.
And then ... the State's debt, promises not kept, a demonized governess, .....
2006 ... Rossi beats Cantwell for Senate
... Publicans win majorities in both houses
2008 ... Nevercutt is the Governor and we begin
the long, dark years .......................................................................................
Merry Christmas Guv Chrissy!
