Well, South Dakota has taken on abortion and won ... But what about the real social problem in our midst, the problem of, well ...
HUMAN-ANIMAL HYBRIDS!
(Cue horror film screams ...)
Sometimes, when I have a quiet moment to myself, I think back to the 2006 State of the Union speech and remember George Bush suddenly launching into one problem that apparently he thinks is a dire affliction in America today ...
HUMAN-ANIMAL HYBRIDS!
I mean, what ... Centaurs? Minotaurs? Holy WTF!
The man-animal hybrid problem ...
Just.
Does.
Not.
Exist.
And neither does the "abortion problem."
Here are some examples of social problems that actually exist in our country:
- Poverty
- Joblessness
- Homelessness
- Child abuse
- Spousal abuse
- Illiteracy
- Poor health care
- Hunger
And, to a lesser degree, I'd add in "Divorce ..."
Although in many cases this is ambiguous.
If South Dakota state legislators and George W. Bush actually wanted to do something that improved the lives of Americans, they would address some of these. Yes, I'm aware that Bill Clinton got a blow job, but he implemented policies that helped people. He had a programme that addressed social issues ... issues that actually exist.
I've never been comfortable with abortion, but I'd never put it up there with the top social issues afflicting our country.
Listen to this:
One in six children in America live in poverty.
Where is George Bush's programme for poverty relief for children in America?
3.5 million people, or more than 1 out of every 100 Americans, will experience homelessness this year.
Where is George Bush's plan for assisting the homeless?
33 million people, or more than 1 out of every 10 Americans, will lack enough food for their basic needs this year.
What is to be done about this?
And the list goes on and on ...
I'm sick of hearing about nonsense like "human-animal hybrids" when there is real work to be done. And these days, it's not about making America a better place? It's about keeping us from slipping lower and lower and lower.
