Sometimes you just want to live your own life. In just the past week I've been petitioning, I visited my Congresscritter, I met with my steering committee to plan our next DFA Linkup. Sometimes I just want to stay home on my few free days and catch up with...me.
So last Friday I stayed home and baked a cake and my famous noodle kugel for Rosh Hoshona. Had to make them a week and a half early because I'm too busy next week to cook. I've ordered the rest of the holiday dinner from a local Foodstuffs, because I'm working on the day before the holiday. Happy birthday, world.
Sunday I will be learning how to conduct surveys of likely progressive voters. On Sunday evening I will go to work. I work part-time now; if you consider more than 40 hours per week part time.
So yes I'm tired, and yes I'm kvetching about it. I have a dog that needs brushing, a carpet that needs vacuuming, and an essay that needs writing; not to mention that great American novel I've been putting off producing.
And did I mention my daughter is getting married next year and I've never planned a wedding before? Or that I've got a laundry list of home improvement projects to tackle? Or that I have laundry to tackle?
Having said all that, I won't give up trying to fix this messed-up country. The fact of the matter is we can't give up. We want our country back as it should be, and when we look around to see who will take it back for us, what we see is each other.
So here's a feeble attempt at summing up my post in poetry. Apologies to Andrew Marvell in advance.
"If we had but world enough and time,"
this kvetching, lady would be no crime.
But since America's in need,
your kugel's made with extra speed.
The world in 7 days was made, tho
The big bang kicked it up a shade.
Darwin's not in the Torah, I surmise,
But evolution's no suprise to the wise.
The wedding plans will have to wait,
for Tom DeLay to get the gate.
When Dr. Frist gets SEC'd,
I'll find a second in which to breath.
"The grave's a fine and quiet place,"
with no progressive ideals to embrace.
So I would wish my days to be,
bound each to each, in political activity.
