I have a friend who's hopelessly wrapped up in EverCrack...I mean EverQuest. Last I checked, she (yes, she...a rarity in the online gaming world) had hundreds of hours clocked in that online world.
Personally, I've always found online gamers to be an interesting socio-psychological study. As the report says, a majority of them actually refer to themselves as addicts. This self-labeling, (excuse me while I wax Jungian) in my opinion, helps contribute to the social stigma against computer users in general. I believe that the spill-over from that, and other groups labeled as "geekish", is what has allowed the old-line Democrats to off-handishly dismiss Howard Dean's grassroots, online support. Online gamers are viewed as somewhat specious, only participating as long as their interests hold. That provides a convenient label for those who wish to adhere to the status-quo, and would, because of that, feel free to slap said label upon any who would make use of this here newfangled Internet.
