I decided to spend my lunch today reading diaries on dailykos and get up to speed on stuff other than the Lamont-Lieberman primary. I came upon
Paradox13's dairy of a hate crime in Virgina and
exconservative's diary about a
hate crime in San Diego after the gay pride celebration there....and then I got frustrated. Having been out for 12 years I've seen a lot of improvement for our lot...but also some huge setbacks. I've grown to accept intolerant behavior from the lesser parts of society--and just dismiss it by saying "they just don't know better." But when its our elected officials and leaders in our society who know better I can't dismiss it. And that's why I got frustrated at lunch....these elected officials just get away it. And there's so many of them
And then I came up with a way I could help in some small way and get my friends and family to help.
.....I realized that some of these homophobic elected officials/leaders are in some tough re-election fights and that $$$ to their challengers could help. Not just my $$$ but others who feel the same way I do.....so I made an actblue page. And it was real easy. I just went to the
Cook Political Report webpage and got the
most recent list of vulnerable House Republicans. I took this list and compared it to the
ratings published by the gay rights watch dog group, the
Human Rights Campaign (HRC). Any vulnerable Republican who got the WORST rating by the HRC went on my actblue page.
And so here is my resulting actblue page! If you know anybody for whom this is a big issue please refer them to it. If you have any suggestions on improving it please send those comments my way! Houses races, on average, tend to be cheaper than Senate races, so the average person's contribution will go further here.
