Woke up this morning, Labor Day, to see HW and Clinton congratulating corporations and politicians. Wal-mart is now donating money. I'd still like to know, why didn't they send fleets of busses and open up their stores during the height of the crisis? My memory is not that short. I don't think the collective memories of the people of New Orleans are either.
Now, Roberts has been nominated as Chief Justice and we are told that his nomination must be confirmed swiftly without debate to ensure a full nine member court which is supposed to be good for the country.
Sorry, that doesn't seem to be the best result for most Americans to me. Just the best result for Bush.
MSNBC also quoted some folks in Slidell, Louisiana. They don't want to look backward and play the blame game. They want to look forward. Those were touted as words of wisdom.
Sorry, I don't see wisdom in that. I don't see wisdom in letting Bush play his politics as usual. Fail the American people and go on to fail them again and again and again. To me there is still the possibility that we are getting the Iraq treatment; create or, at least take advantage of, chaos so they can steal...in our case, steal our democracy.
In most jobs, if you have this long of a string a failures, they at least watch your work more closely and put you on some sort of probation. Why should Bush fair better than the average American worker?
As the body count goes up and up in the next few days and as small businesses realize that they cannot go bankrupt to save their lives and as the ill realize that their medical bills will haunt them forever and as the people of New Orleans realize that the stripped environmental laws failed their now toxic city, the typically short memories of Americans may lengthen and maybe one Labor Day, it won't be just politics as usual.
