My friend Linda was threatened with arrest for trespass a few minutes ago for collecting signatures on my nomination papers outside Madison Area Technical College. (That's what we call community colleges in Wisconsin)
They'd had me arrested there in 2000 when I was leafletting for Dave Karpe's District Attorney bid, charges dismissed, and the subsequent false arrest case settled for $7,500. The idiots want to go another round.
She's left the property, waiting until I can join her.
Obviously, I'm not sticking around for replies, will post an update sometime this afternoon.
UPDATE: The City Officer, after warning me, was persuaded to call the City Attorney, who advised against arresting or citing me. I was (properly) warned against soliciting inside the building, and left to work on the entranceway.
The 1969 State supreme Court case I'd been relying on as precedent distinguished between hallways indoors, and the grounds of taxpayer funded colleges.
140 signatures in the can, heading back out after lunch.
