I must give credit where credit is due. Brooks makes an excellent argument for gay marriage this morning, and he claims it's a conservative argument.
Problem is, it's not. And I don't agree with it entirely.
I'm all for promoting gay marriage as an expression of fidelity. I just don't think it's the government's business. Neither would true conservatives.
He claims the Dems are pushing it as a benefits plan or a contract. That's because the Dems are rightfully pushing for civil unions, which are contracts. In the end, that's all that government should do FOR ALL COUPLES.
Marriage is for religions and non-sectarian officiators. Governments should witness the legal end of that bond, and then stay quiet.
End of story.
