George Will, right-wing commentator and baseball fanatic (nothing wrong with the latter) has finally opined on the consumption tax. Thank God! I was holding my breath. Will's piece gives tacid endorsement to the Fair Tax introduced by Representative John Linder (R...of course) of Georgia.
There is an error in the Will piece, however. Will implicitly stated that Speaker Dennis Haster awarded Linder a seat on the powerful Ways and Means Committee in the 109th Congress. Linder has been on Ways and Means, however, for a few Congress's, and it certainly was not due to his stance on something as radical as the conusmption tax.
Republicans will go from the Party of Lincoln to the Party of Tom DeLay if they continue to push flawed reforms such as ethics, tax reform and...of course Social Security.
